Accomplishments for 2015-16

Lake Louisa State Park: Park Manager Spaulding recently had the honor of attending two Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremonies. One for Boy Scout Riley Cowell and the other for Boy Scout Calvin Thomas. Riley who was only 15 at the time of his project completely rejuvenated the parks trail marking system to include 60 new posts, arrows and numbers. The park has already received numerous accolades regarding the improvements. Calvin took on the task of completely renovating the parks 10 station fitness trail. This project included borders and rubber mulch around each station, new signage and repairs to the existing structures. Calvin’s project has also received a number of positive remarks.  Both Scouts are from local Boy Scout Troop 444 and their slogan is “WE DO MORE” which is very apparent to us. We commend them both for jobs well done as they join the ranks of Eagle Scout. Yes, Riley's project was 667 hours and Calvin's was 192 hours. That includes the troop’s hours as well.

Lake Louisa State Park: On May 7, 2016 the Friends of Lake Louisa State Park, Inc. (FOLLSP) hosted its annual Nature Fest. This year almost 1000 visitors showed up to enjoy the day’s activities which included nature exhibits, guided hiking tours, tram tours, arts and crafts, archeological programs, kayaking, canoeing and much more. For many years now this Festival has drawn thousands of folks to the park to celebrate mother earth and all she has to offer. This event requires months of planning and LOTS of volunteers. A special thank you to FOLLSP Board Member Amy Schulz for directing this year’s event and for all the wonderful volunteers that made it possible. It was truly a day to remember and we are already looking forward to next year’s Nature Fest.
